News :: November 2018 NACSW By the Numbers Update

We like to periodically share some data and statistics relating to NACSW participation.  Here's an update with data current as of Nov 20, 2018


There are currently 19527 NACSW™ registered dogs living in all 50 states and the District of Columbia as well as 5 Canadian provinces

  • 5,970 of these dogs entered events in 2018.
  • Almost 4000 of the total registered dogs are mixed breed dogs.  
  • The top 3 breeds in number registered with us include: German Shepherd Dog, Labrador Retriever, and Border Collie.
  • We have 241 different breeds of dogs registered.

There were 6578 members for the 2017-2018 membership year living in all 50 states and the District of Columbia as well as 5 Canadian provinces

Through Nov 18, 2018, 15,456 dogs have passed an Odor Recognition Test (ORT)

  • 15 ORTs were held in 2009 compared with 102 ORTs held in 2017
  • ORTs have now been held in 41 different states.

In 2009, a total of 7 trials were held for all levels of competition (NW1, NW2 & NW3). In 2012, a total of 80 trials were held.  In 2018, a total of 465 trials will be held for all levels of competition

  • Trials have now been held or are scheduled to be held in 40 states including: AK, AL, AZ, CA, CO, CT, FL, GA, HI, IA , IL, IN, KY, LA, MA, MD, ME, MI, MN, MO, MT, NC, NH, NJ, NV, NY, OH, OK, OR, PA, RI, SC, TN, TX, UT, VA, WA, WI, WV, WY

  • 7763 NW1 titles earned
  • 4185 NW2 titles earned
  • 1767 NW3 titles earned
  • 828 NW3 Elite titles
  • 516 ELT1 titles
  • 314 ELT2 titles
  • 199 ELT3 titles
  • 84 ELT-CH titles
